Rev. Roger Garner

Born October 14, 1954 in Senatobia, Mississippi to the union of Earl, and the late Dovie Garner, both of Senatobia, Mississippi. At 5 years old his family moved to Holly Springs, Mississippi. He has two brothers; Jessie and Larry Garner. He is married to Bessie M. (Prior) Garner of Lambert, Mississippi. He is the father of two sons; Roderick Lamont and Mark Anthony Garner of Grand Rapids. Stepfather to Andrea Smith of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the grandfather of 4 children (3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter).

Rev. Garner joined the Royston Chapel Methodist Church at the age of 12 years under the Pastorage of Rev. Montgomery. Rev. Garner moved his family to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1984. He then joined the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Moses Garmon.

Roger always knew that God had a calling on his life as he had made a vow to the Lord early in his life. He failed, however, to heed that call and did as Jonah did and rejected God’s call. In 1991, Roger and his family joined the Martin Luther King Jr. Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Alvin Hills Sr. He served as a trial deacon and in other positions under Pastor Hills until the Pastors death in 1998.

During the summer of 1999, Roger returned to The Prince Of Peace under the leadership of Rev. B. E. Garmon Sr. He was ordained and served as a deacon from July 30,2000 until he announced his call to the ministry. He received his license to preach on January 20,2002. Roger’s life has been blessed. He realizes that God’s grace and mercy brought him through.

His favorite scripture is John 3:16 “For God so loved the world (Roger) that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever (Roger) believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. Rev. Garners’ mission in life is to be a beacon to the lost, by lifting up, magnifying, and glorifying the Precious Name of Jesus.
