The Prince Of Peace Missionary Baptist Church
Organized July 01, 1979
The Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church was organized on July 01, 1979 by the late Rev. Dr. Moses Garmon. After spending many years in several Churches in various capacities, Rev. Garmon was led of the Lord to Organize the Prince of Peace. On July 01, 1979, Rev. Moses Garmon along with a small group of Baptized Believers, met on July 1st 1979 at the Church Of God In Christ located at 4435 Potter Street, Kentwood, Michigan for the purpose of forming a Mission for the worshipping of the Lord. The name of the mission was "The Potter Street Mission". After just three weeks as a Mission, the Lord saw fit for The Potter Street Mission to become a Church.
On July 22, 1979 at 3:00pm, the members of The Potter Street Mission met with Rev. V.L. Hannett and the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Muskegon, Michigan, and Rev. R.L. Johnson and the Bethlehem Baptist Church of Grand Rapids, Michigan; for the purpose of organizing a Church of Jesus Christ. A motion was made by Brother Arthur Neal that the Potter Street Mission be converted into an organized Missionary Baptist Church. Brother Bruce E. Garmon made a motion that the newly organized church be named "The Prince Of Peace Missionary Baptist Church". Rev. Moses Garmon was elected as Pastor, and all other offices were filled. The Charter Membership was as follows:

The first sermon came from Isaiah 40:6 and 1 Corinthians 1:23; the subject was "Go Out And Cry" by Rev. V.L. Hannett. And cry we did; after a few months on Potter Street, the building was in such great need of repair that the Lord placed it on Pastor M. Garmon's heart that we should move. We had little to no money, but we still began to look for some place to go. We met at the church and went into prayer. We later found a two family house on Henry Street. We put our little money together in the name of Jesus and we came up with enough to pay down on the house.
